Post 15 Riverside Hotel Kendal

Tonight I am unaccountably tired. It is not from over-exertion. All I have done is catch a taxi from one hotel to another 10 miles away.

A few of our party left before breakfast this morning to catch planes. The rest of  us met over breakfast then dispersed to pack. There were lots of farewells, hugs and tentative plans.

Just before my taxi arrived there was a flurry of sleet - not easy to photograph.

By the time I reached Kendal it was raining hard. I was too early to check in, and it was too miserable to go out, so I found a corner of the Bar with good light and stitched.
I could also watch the weather outside - which was wet, windy and sleeting.
I tried to snap the sleet, but it didn't work well.

Around 12.30pm the sun broke through, so I went for a walk - but retreated after  300 metres when the sun disappeared and it started to rain steadily.

I got most of the Hill Top Cottage gate finished in the good light of the Bar.

It's a trifle wonky - but then so was the gate!

At 2pm I moved into my room. It is on the third floor, overlooking the river.

It has a deeply inset window, which lets in decent light but is not for sitting watching the river - too deep and a bit drafty - no double glazing here.

Nonetheless, it provided quite good afternoon light (facing West) and I managed to finish the creeper on the house

and a bit more of the rhubarb leaves before I lost the light.

I took my book - Bruce Beckham's 12th DI Skilgell novel set in the Lake District- to the Bar and ordered the steak and mushroom pie. It is not up to the standard of the Ryebeck's Michelin Star chef - but it was pretty good. It was certainly warming. It is currently 4C.

The forecast is pretty much rain for the next 3 days.  I might try to get to the Quaker Tapestry for an hour or so in the morning.
